Get To Know Me

Get To Know Me
Hey there! I’m Tamika.
I’m a Storyteller. Spokesperson. Speaker. Or, put simply, I’m a creator.
I’m a creator of Stories. Videos. Connections. Inspiration.
I was once pounding the pavement as a local TV news reporter & anchor. Now, I help brands connect with their audiences through authentic and compelling on-camera delivery, when I’m not running my video and content marketing agency, TB Media Group.
I’ll be honest, it’s a long way from where I started.

Drawn to the Stage
As a young kid, I loved two things -- the arts and stories. I was drawn to music, dance, and creative expression. At 3 years old, I began my 20-year career as a dancer. I won “Best Dancer” in my 8th grade class. I performed in the Orange Bowl in front of thousands as a Miami Hurricanes Sunsation Dancer. (Go Canes!) I would take the train to NYC, when I visited my mom in New Jersey, just to dance with some of the best instructors at the renowned Broadway Dance Center.
But ask me to speak in front of the large crowds I danced in front of -- Forget. About. It.
I was just like so many others who fear raising their hand in class, speaking up in the team meeting, or giving a presentation to a room full of faces staring back at you. But I still wanted to be the creator -- the one crafting the messages, just not the vessel through which those messages traveled.
Or so I thought.

I Turned To Journalism
Pursuing broadcast journalism at the University of Miami seemed like a natural fit. I’m a strong writer, a visual communicator, and I get hands on when it comes to shooting and editing, too. I interned at CNN Los Angeles, shadowing TV legends like Larry King and Anderson Cooper -- and then WPLG-TV, where my advisor told me, “You’re going to work for me one day.”
He was right.
At the advice of my advisor, I begrudgingly pursued TV reporting as a career. I wasn’t comfortable being live on-air, where tens of thousands could see me stumble on their TV screens. But those around me saw something in me, I didn’t see in myself.
After two years in a small town market, I was on my way back to South Florida to work at WPLG-TV for my intern advisor and my college professor. I was polished.
I had a great two-year run chasing South Florida news, but I knew there was something more for me. Covering breaking news, crime, and scandals in scorching heat under extremely tight deadlines, was not the career I wanted long term.

Building a Business
In 2015, I started my Miami-based video and content marketing agency, TB Media Group, and began showing up on-camera again. This time -- for private clients like South Florida production companies, and clients looking to build their library of video content to promote their businesses.
I was featured on specials like PBS’ national documentary, “Africa’s Great Civilizations,” hosted by Dr. Henry Louis Gates. I’ve spoken to students from elementary schools to universities around the country. I’ve coached entrepreneurs and organizations on their on-camera speaking and storytelling skills. I’ve used my own platforms to promote brands I support, creating sponsored content and videos.
After 15 years of being on camera, I can now say I look forward to the days when I hear “action” at the start of each shoot, and “you’re so easy to work with” when we wrap a long day.
